Keywords are like your phone number, they help people connect with you. If they don’t dial the right numbers, your phone doesn’t ring. If they don’t use your keywords in Searching, it is harder for them to find your website.

Does your website use keywords that are searched? As simple as it seems, it is a basic flaw in a high percentage of websites. Many websites are designed for aesthetics and the landing pages are attractive, but they would hold no interest for search engines.

Search engines look for the websites with the highest Authority for the words the Visitor is using to find information. If a Visitor, your prospect, is looking for a chiropractor to solve back pain, the Search engines will look for websites that use these words the most.

Having researched these sites, I have found it is an advantage to have chiropractic in the domain name and as the title of the website. Then chiropractic or chiropractor should be used on the landing page.

A chiropractor solves many issues; back pain is just one. The best way to draw attention to other aspects of your business is to use the “specialties” on the landing page, as pages on the menu, as sub pages, and finally in blogs.

The best way to get exposure and authority for more keywords is to include them in the title of blogs and then use them in the content. If a chiropractor were to blog daily about how to solve neck pain, he would develop high authority for that issue when someone searched for that solution.

Add depth to the keywords in your website for the areas you want to build by including them in more locations on the website.

There are so many approaches to making websites useful. Making them popular is one goal. Making them successful may be based on how many prospects become customers. Some owners just want them to look good.

Creating a marketing strategy to popularize a website should have many legs. The website explains your business or expertise, so the long run goal should be greater market share and higher revenues.

Your targets probably have differing preferences for how they like to be influenced. Some appreciate the efficiency of email. Some enjoy newsletters. Many are into social media and follow recommendations on face book or twitter. I find meeting people personally at events or talking on the telephone is effective because I have always been in sales.

These days, everyone usually follows an encounter with viewing your website. It does tell how cutting edge you are and might be effective in demonstrating your expertise or perhaps your weaknesses. Our lizard brains are always on the look out.

My campaigns cover a little of everything, but I am not fanatical about any one thing. I use Linked in, Google +, Twitter, Face Book, and Newsletters for online reach.

I still like vehicles such as Craig’s List, Fliers, Business Cards, Events, and Community Involvement. The most important strategy is to keep creating exposure and attracting or driving your ideal customers to your website.

**

I help you create an Organic Website to which you can add fresh content and it is SEO’d to attract search engines. There are many techniques to draw and hold your Visitors and create a following. In this age, if they don’t know you, you might have to keep providing your Expertise until Prospects are ready to become customers.

Many marketers have difficulty working on one website. Once you learn how keywords target ideal customers, more websites can make sense.

Search engines match the Visitors query which are keywords to the best website for a solution. If your website is the best of class for the keywords the Visitor uses to find a solution, you will be on the first page.

A new website gains authority quicker if it also narrows the field to a geographical region. For example, my SurfBoardsOceanside.com website found traction much quicker than if I had not put in a territory.

I can get websites to page one quicker using territories and then they can expand their reach with various SEO practices. But in crowded fields like law, there are so many specialists that it is difficult to get to page one for each type of law the attorney may be able to handle.

You can create a lot of keywords and then build sites to specialize in your different areas of expertise and also in different geographical regions. Given time, you can accomplish the same with one site, but it might be faster with more websites.

**

I help you create an Organic Website to which you can add fresh content and it is SEO’d to attract search engines.

The internet is about providing expertise to those Visitors seeking solutions. Wikipedia, Mapquest, dictionaries, WebMd, and Pixenate are just samples of expertise provided for specific needs.

Do you fulfill a need? Do you give answers when people come to your site? Search engines don’t really register an appeal to call the site owner to find the answers they seek. Search engines want to see keywords in print.

Your site picks up authority from a greater depth of keywords, frequent changes, and traffic. Search Engines and Google are impressed when others have found you to be valuable.

You can assist in building your popularity by engaging in Social Media, email campaigns, and newsletters. Blogging gives your site fresh content, keyword depth, and eventually traffic.

Don’t be afraid of telling people what you know. The 10,000 hours you invested to become an expert cannot be duplicated by your Prospects by studying sites on Google. To solve their problems, they will need to trust someone who can work through all the obstacles.

As I mentioned yesterday in quoting from Seth Godin, the website is efficient but not necessarily magic. One way or another, you have to drive or attract traffic. We might think that once we have created a website we can sit back and wait for the cash register to ring.

There are at least five actions we should consider to make the website and our marketing more effective.

Attach to Twitter

Attach to Face Book

Create a Newsletter

Hand out cards with your website address

Engage in social or business functions

I use Twitter and am not very active on Face Book but I get daily traffic from Tweeting my posts. Those who engage their followers on Face Book can also get traffic back to read articles.

A Newsletter to people on your email list or Linked In is a great way to broadcast your expertise and narrow down your target audience. It is important not to inundate your Prospects, because more is not better. A consistent “touch” is better.

Nothing is as effective as you in person. People meet you and are then more interested in what you do. You can also insert your service into a conversation at the appropriate time or tease the conversation to your business.

Social and business events are great for holding peoples attention at a time when they are open to listen. Getting an email when they arrive to work is one of their burdens. But meeting people and expanding their own out reach is why they are out and about.

Without having to bore people about what you do in detail, your website will explain it to those who are really in the market. Developing light touches over a long period of time with more and more prospects may eventually build a tribe that likes you and may someday think of you when they are in the buying cycle for your product or service.

**

I help you create an Organic Website to which you can add fresh content and it is SEO’d to attract search engines.

Seth Godin makes a great point in today’s blog about making money online. It is not magic, it is just efficient. If we don’t have a great offline service, it is difficult to make it work online.

I personally have a greater success ratio meeting people in person than I have of sales per number of visitors to my website. Online marketing is extremely efficient in reaching out to people who don’t know you, but very challenging to convert those visitors to customers.

Customers who use my service are happy. How do you convince people who don’t know you and whose lizard brains are working actively that you can be trusted? This is the challenge of online marketing if you are not selling a branded item. A branded item has already done all the trust work. A brand means proven.

The second best thing to being a brand is being referred by someone. This also means proven to the person who trusts the person referring. The closest we get to that online is testimonials. Sometimes we only trust testimonials when we have already decided to move forward.

How do you do the brand work online? It can be a slower process and might have to be more thorough. We provide our expertise. We give someone additional samples of our work. We tell people about us and our mission. We lead them to our Social Media where they might experience our community or tribe.

We might give Visitors a trial of our service. We guarantee it. We provide case studies. We invite them to call us or meet us.

If what we provide is spot on with what they are seeking and we seem to have better credentials, delivery, pricing than our competitors, they may further engage to see if their lizard brain can be put to rest.

Selling online is efficient in reaching people, but twice as hard at selling them than meeting them personally.

What do you do to warm up Visitors?

One of the difficulties in converting online Prospects to Customers is they don’t get to use the five human senses in evaluating for trust. We are highly evolved in sensing more than we observe. We get a feel for things much quicker than we evaluate.

Therefore, when Visitors come to our strictly structured website, they do not get a feel for the people behind it most of the time. They get the expected offering of services and hopefully a sense of the site owner’s expertise.

Their second step before engaging with a phone call or signing for an email list is whether they feel the owner is a customer first operation or a company first operation. Consumers want to work with companies that are people, customer, community, and environment sensitive.

How do you convey this needed level of comfort to new Prospects? I like to check a site’s blog to see if they are revealing any heart and soul. They may talk about customer’s experiences, where the company is headed, what is important to them, and other insights that help my Lizard brain get a sense for who they are.

A blog can allow you to let your hair down and invite people into your living room so that they get to know you. I always have a higher ratio of success when I meet people personally and I am sure you do too. They need that sense of you to move forward.

**

I help you create an Organic Website to which you can add fresh content and it is SEO’d to attract search engines. There are many techniques to draw and hold your Visitors and create a following. In this age, if they don’t know you, you might have to keep providing your Expertise until Prospects are ready to become customers

So many of my new clients start off with saying they want a clean looking website. This is probably the growing reaction to websites that pack too much information onto the landing page.

When I visit a site and my eyes start to blur because there are so many messages, I immediately want to bounce. A site should quickly give the visitor an idea about what the website contains and how to navigate to find the information they need.

Many times someone is visiting a website to look for the contact information, so an obvious phone number is a good idea. The objective of the website owner is to continue the relationship. This is created by having an email sign up or offering a download for more relevant information.

A website should quickly explain the owners expertise and how they apply it. This is the main reason for the visit. If it is crowded with too many options or advertisements, the Visitor may miss the point or quickly give up.

80% of Visitors bounce within 30 seconds of their first visit to a new website, so that tells you how long you have to make an impression and convince them to stay longer.

Statistics show that 55% of websites on the internet are from Word Press. Since there were 300 million new websites in 2011, that is a lot of Word Press sites. The essence of Word Press is to create your own content and propel your expertise into the mix.

Even though I read a lot of blogs, very few people I know are able to blog. My daughters have graduated Universities as English majors and create new sites and stop blogging. Most people would call this phenomena writer’s block, but there is more.

There is fear of exposure. There is the inability of getting in flow. There is intimidation from something that is really not life threatening. Its also easy for me to say because I have been blogging most days for a few years.

At the beginning I did not write well. Hopefully I am better now. You have to make the commitment to keep working at it and eventually your writing starts matching your thoughts. I wasn’t a surfer for months, but going in daily helped me become one. There are few short cuts to success.

Fear of judgment is big in our culture. Fear of creating a website that people won’t like is definitely part of it. In Finding Your Zone by Micheal Lardon, he has shown that athletes and others that perform to be famous cannot reach their peak performance.

Tiger Woods didn’t play to become famous. He wanted to hit a golf ball as well as it could be hit. Focusing on the craft and not on the consequences is the key difference. Fear of judgment can keep you from ever being good. It is a main saboteur of getting into flow.

When I started, I also had a tough time putting the “I” in my work; fear of judgment. The break through starts when you say “petal to the medal, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead”.

You have to cross this line where you value your right to self expression more than you fear what people will say about you. Self expression is important. You can ask yourself, how much self expression are your critics involved in, what are they risking, are they willing to be vulnerable?

Stephen Covey in The Eighth Habit says our purpose is to express ourselves and encourage others to do the same. Let’s go!

**

I have been blessed with many advantages and opportunities. I am most thankful for my two wonderful daughters. People in other parts of the world are not born in a country like the United States. It is hard to imagine the struggle others have for food, water, security, and freedom. They are fearful for their family’s welfare every moment.

We can’t cure the problems of the world nor are we responsible for them. I say if there is just one thing we can do, let’s do it. I have chosen to help raise awareness that a billion people don’t have access to clean water. It makes every day tough. People get sick every 19 seconds. Water is responsible for 80% of the planet’s sickness. I am especially sensitive that the girls and women are responsible for collecting water and it prevents them from having opportunities women have in developed countries.

$1 or $5 helps bring water and clean water to villages, schools, and clinics. Its the least we can do. Join me with a small contribution:

The internet is global and people are surfing for answers while we are sleeping. A lot of my readership is from other countries and are usually countable up to 20 countries. I also notice that I have a lot of interaction with website owners in the U.K. and Australia.

Blogs remain on the internet for years. If it is a good topic that people continue to need, the search engines will continue to provide it for queries. Writing blogs with good keyword headlines and including the keywords in the content creates a niche for that information.

A paid advertisement has a short life. Even social media comments have short lives. A blog not only remains on your site as landing page reading, but gets logged into categories and archives that can give your readers access forever. Blogging is automatic SEO.

Most of my traffic statistics indicate I get new visitors each month and I have old visitors returning. While on my site they may read 2 to 6 pages. Some are on for a short time and some stay for over an hour.

Blogging on your expertise creates this grateful relationship with your visitors.
