Peak Performance is Ours to Create
Posted by: | CommentsCreating our constant state of Peak Performance is like developing a good curve ball pitch or learning how to deliver the jump shot in a game. How do you come up with the line that
persuades the client and closes the deal?
When we are in the zone or flow, we operate at our ultimate best. It means that our nervous system is settled with the right amount of beta waves flowing through our brain and just enough adrenaline to make us excited but not anxious.
This also activates our dopamine and serotonin neurotransmitters which are the brain happiness chemicals, but also put the brain into peak operation like high quality motor oil.
Some people experience the zone now and then and others more frequently. It is as much about what is not in your life as about what is in. Reducing anxiety so that it doesn’t rule our behavior is important. It requires eliminating distractions, reducing stimulus, increasing focus, and then letting it fly.
There is a switch that we flip that determines our attitude. Is the glass half full or half empty? Is life against us or will everything work out for the best? Do we have faith or are we eternal pessimists? Do we have gratitude or does the world owe us a living?
People that are happy would pick the positive in each of these questions. They have faith that everything will work out for the best and is just the way its supposed to be. They will practice their skills and expect to become competent with daily effort. They are committed to being better inspite of all obstacles.
Bringing our world inside can start with controlling our habits and creating discipline. Healthy eating and exercise will test any will. The discipline and faith that we can accomplish what we envision builds and we are exerting control over a mind that likes to sabotage.
Having gratitude on a daily basis builds happiness. Tests prove it. Now we have to have faith that daily practice of a skill will create long term improvement. The engagement in an activity that we enjoy and is challenging can lead to flow which is peak performance.

Are Women Ruling Social Media?
Posted by: | CommentsIn an article in Mashable, Curt Finch, founder of Journax discusses the rise of Pinterest and
the significance of a social media site ruled by women.
“Launched in 2010, the site grew from 1.6 million visitors in September 2011 to a whopping 11.1 million visitors in February 2012.” The significant factor in that growth is that over 80% of the membership is female. Women seemed to have found a site where they can cater to the interests of women and build their own community.
Women have been leading the charge in several areas including college graduates, new management hires. percentage of working force, and of course increasing political roles.
When you consider their economic impact; “What does all of this information mean for businesses using Pinterest as a marketing tool? After all, women account for 85% of all consumer purchases, everything from autos to health care.”
So I am not going to put out the warning to men that their influence is dwindling, but this is more of a note for men and women that the appeal of marketing has to take in this marketing demographic.
Also consider that “… this new wave of social sites is all about creating an experience and building a community rather than performing direct marketing.” Google + is trying to build on this dynamic as it chases Face Book. Its market segmentation, but it is also message segmentation.
The long tail in internet marketing has created the opportunity to appeal to a very small niche and circles are creating the opportunity to divide messages and sharing between personal and business and those in between. There is that realm of acquaintances that we haven’t brought into the friend or client status but are bringing into our community.
“Comscore says women are the majority of social networking users, and spend 30% more time on sites than men. Plus, mobile social network usage is 55% female, according to Nielsen.” Can we say women are better community builders or just more interested in community building or both?
In the history of man, women have always been subjugated to the will of men and I think this rising is not a vendetta, but the expression of that for which they have always been capable. The world might be a more peaceful place if women have the final word.
Most social networks are growing on the back of photos. By whose influence is that? Photos are certainly a dynamic way to share and bring others into an experience. We might call this a feminine touch, but it looks like we all better get in touch with our feminine side.

Websites are a great building block for Social Networking. The blog is the ultimate way to share insights and build key word depth for the appeal of Search Engines. They also become the train depot for deflecting and receiving links to and from Social Media Sites. My websites are built on a word press base that allow more sophisticated construction but allow static or blogging landing pages. You can add as many pages and as many blogs as you desire. The organic content can propel them to ranking in Google.
See http:SampleOrganicWebsite.com for a test drive or peruse through this site. It is at the top of Google with some 450 million results for its domain name.

How Are You Broadcasting Your Expertise?
Posted by: | CommentsMost of us share some of the same issues. We have an expertise that is competitive but there is lots of competition. Luckily there is lots of demand. Unfortunately, there may be more
supply than demand and some get a larger share of the rewards.
Are you willing to give away your expertise? One expert on internet marketing says he gives away 95% of his expertise to sell 5% and he still makes a lot of money. Don’t be afraid you will educate someone and then they will do the job themselves.
You have probably learned that one of the main characteristics of business people these days is they are risk adverse. That is why they won’t try something themselves of which they have little knowledge. That is why we have to give guarantees, trials, and bonuses to get someone to move forward.
The most effective process in the New Media and in relationship marketing is to draw people in who are looking for your expertise in their “buying cycle” and allow them to opt into you. In a recent survey of executives, this is how 8 out of 10 like to proceed.
They want to learn how to make a wise decision and then they want to find someone who can deliver the results. In setting up websites for businesses, I found that I had done all the evaluation, analysis, and design before we ever moved forward. At first I was worried they would take my information and go somewhere else, but they wanted to almost see the finished product before they moved forward.
You can broadcast your expertise through Posts, White Papers, Downloads, E Books, Videos, Newsletters, Seminars, Webinars, Podcasts and Direct Mail. I wouldn’t worry about giving away trade secrets. I would worry more about convincing your Prospects in their buying cycle that you know more than your competitors.
**
Websites can be the Center Piece of your Expertise Broadcasting. You can refer people back to your website from Posts, Face Book, Google +, Linked In, Twitter, and other Social Media. Then your site can also forward people to your Social Media. You want to create fresh content on a regular basis to your site so that Search Engines get excited about you.

How to Find Your Website Niche
Posted by: | CommentsYour website is ranked on Google by a complicated algorithm that includes factors we don’t even know. Google does this on purpose so there is less scamming. We do know some of the
important criteria by trial and error.
You begin looking for the best niche with research on your business’s competition and use of key words. Since Visitors start the process, you begin by thinking of the words someone might use to find you. Then you Google those words to see what pops up.
You can start by searching Google’s analytic tool that tells you how many visits there are per month for words or phrases. http://bit.ly/9FqW8F. You would like to use words that attract a lot of traffic.
When you find those words, you Google them to see who shows up on the page. If the words you are using are not the most commonly used words, your major competitors won’t appear on the search. You will get directories, schools, and many sites not really in your business.
If your major competitors are on the page listed in order from top to bottom, you have found the premium page. The problem is that if your site is new, you don’t have the authority of domain age, key word depth, or traffic to compete and get placed above or even among these competitors.
You have to start creating what is called the long tail by adding words to your key word phrase to fall into a good, but less competitive niche. The best way is to start limiting the reach geographically until your site has more depth and traffic and then broadening the geographical reach.
What do I mean? I started a few sites called SurfboardsOceanside.com and SkateboardsOceanside.com San Diego is the larger market and I definitely couldn’t use just the words surfboard or skateboard or I would be into a global or national market. The term Skateboards Oceanside with the proper SEO and some content got me to page one Google for that term in a few days.
I worked with some firms in the Shipping and Freight business. This industry is very competent on the internet. You can’t waltz into the main pages but you have to use limiters or the long tail. So if you ship literature you might have to go to “Literature Fulfillment in Chicago, or Midwest.”
If you then direct advertising to your site through Pay Per Click, Back Links and add content like pages or Blogs, you eventually build up the balance of content and traffic that Google will recognize and you will start advancing toward page one. I build my sites with content only by adding Blogs only and it is very effective if you blog frequently.

We Are Key Words
Posted by: | CommentsNothing like having a party and no one showing up. The world is an internet party and the invitation is in keywords.
There are over a billion websites and billions of visits every day. It would seem everyone could at least get a couple million visits, would that be so bad? The reality is that a few people get a lot and most people get a few.
You may be the best there is at what you do, but who do you tell? Google delivers most of the visits, so they would be good a good target. We know also that Social Media sites deliver a tremendous amount of traffic, but that is a different discussion. You can bounce websites and social media off each other for a perfect combination.
When you understand that a Search Engine’s, Google, first priority is to their Visitors, you realize you are really a sub contractor. Google is the contractor and they are looking for Subs to fill the Request. They need them instantly. How do they do this? Their spiders work during the night to find out who’s been naughty and who’s been nice.
Your website is a body of work not just content and pictures. The best bodies of work become the best sub contractors regardless of real talent. The best sites put on the best show. It’s hard to manipulate Google without knowing your lines. A website has structure and content and the spiders read both.
The best “show” will have the keywords in the Domain name, then website title, landing page title, opening paragraph, pages, posts, and anchor text at bottom of articles or website. The show’s with the best ratings will have more keywords than the other shows.
The other criteria Google uses is traffic to the site. They want to know you are popular. They also like to look at who is linking to the site. If “authority” relevant sites are linking to you, they give that weight. An older site has weight because the business is proven.
If you don’t have the budget to advertise, blog everyday with your keywords. Google really loves sites that build traffic gradually, because then they know they are legitimate and not using tricks to generate large amounts of during short advertising spurts. A site without good content can generate traffic with advertising, but Visitors don’t come back.
Keywords describe your business, your skill, your product, your service, your offer. If you have a website with great depth and age you need a long tail of keywords to narrow your niche. For example, the sites with the most traffic or depth could use the word “Freight” or “Shipping” and be on top. These words have over 50 million results .
The small guy has to use a long tail like “Literature shipping for Chicago”. The more authority you develop, the shorter your phrase and the larger the area you can cover.

Why Aren’t People Happier?
Posted by: | CommentsBurying yourself in work to get ahead is slowly burying yourself.
We’re over worked, stressed, and exhausted. People don’t have the time to exercise so that they would have more stamina. Who creates our days? We do.
In his book, The Happiness Advantage, Shawn Achor makes the same point that many of us Happiness writers make, the old formula is broken. I grew up to think that grades, schools, and jobs lead to happiness. My kids were raised by the same dictum.
We’ve all learned it’s broken. Shawn’s studies and research at Harvard over the last 15 years have shown that even in the best situations, people choose misery over happiness. As a student at Harvard, he was surprised to find that 4 out of 5 students would get depressed during the year.
Students would lose track of the fact they were the brightest, most privileged, and had the best opportunities of most people in the nation. Happiness also has to do with whether we see our work as our life’s work and contribution or just a job.
There are janitors and grocery store baggers happier with their work than CEO’s and Lawyers. In fact, lawyers are three times as depressed as most other professions other than perhaps tax accountants. Income is no guarantee of happiness.
What seems to make us happy is relying on ourselves. We want to express, be connected, love and feel loved, contribute, and have gratitude. Gratitude is the one ticket out of the hole. We can choose to have gratitude.
In fact, people who list on a daily basis the things for which they are gratified, get happier. People who are happy accomplish more. Our brains are wired to be more effective and productive when there is dopamine and serotonin floating freely.
What creates dopamine and serotonin? Exercise, passionate pursuits, sex, gratitude, contribution, charity, and optimism to name a few. Its as simple as flipping the switch.
If you see you have abundant opportunities to contribute you are happy. If you feel you are stuck in a hole and will never get out, you can be depressed.
Get Happy. Start building behaviors that are positive and break the chains of slavery that make you feel there is no way out.
I will soon release the first chapters of my new E Book on how Performance and Happiness are Soul Mates.

Your Unique Selling Proposition into Key Words
Posted by: | CommentsDeveloping content that uses keywords to state your unique selling proposition targets your ideal customer.
It is a world where anyone with a computer and internet connection can dominate a niche. This was the proposition of Thomas Friedman in The World is Flat. In the book Extreme
Competition by Peter Fingar, he points out that 3 billion new capitalists blur the lines of developing and developed countries.
With IPhones and varieties of Smart Phones taking over the communication world, people don’t even need a desk or a cable to find what they need. The most important element becomes the ability to be found for what you do.
Like chromosomes determine your characteristics, key words on the internet define your niche. What is it you do and secondly, why should someone pick you? The smaller you are the more keywords you might want (the long tail) to narrow your niche. These days local is big, so dominating the search for your home town is a great place to start.
Once you are coming up on top for your local city, you have the authority to start shortening your key word phrase to expand the reach of your website or blog. For instance, a company might want to enter the world of “Freight Shipping” . A newbie wouldn’t be found but if they narrowed it to “Chicago Literature Freight Shipping” they could rise to the top faster.
What is it you do better than everyone else? Why would people select you? Can you put it into key words that might be used by someone searching for your service on their phone or computer? Local is good. Delivery might be important. Fresh could be important. Lowest price is used. Biggest selection might work. Expert might help. Free something attracts attention.
I think we are getting the idea. If you want Google to select your statements off your blog or site, state your USP in the first few lines and mention it a few times in your article. Then you should be doing more than one blog with those key words. You should be doing them everyday.
After a while, Google or other search engines start to see your site as the one that mentions that USP more than anyone else. Bingo, you get found.

Peak Performance through Fitness and Happiness
Posted by: | CommentsI think the highest form of mental activity is creativity. Even left brain people can be
creative. Mathematicians will say there is a great deal of creativity in math and science.
Creativity is how you make life better or your contribution more meaningful. You lift people out of the process in which they are involved to try new things. Your product or service might be a new thing. How can you spark some one’s imagination to try you?
You have to be loose. Being tied up with tension and anxiety makes it difficult to activate our intuitive, emotional, creative powers. Good health helps your engine fire on all cylinders. Natural food makes digestion easy and allows the body to send more oxygen to the brain.
Exercise releases the endorphins and brings on the serotonin and dopamine. A good muscle burn can put you almost in the same mood as sex. After surfing, I just couldn’t get much mellower. Sex really makes your brain come alive but its hard to type while you’re having it.
When you take care of your body, you start feeling more gratitude and are more positive about your opportunities. The better you feel, the more you want to contribute. Stephen Covey says in the 8th Step, that contribution is our highest purpose.
Shawn Achor in The Happiness Advantage says people that are happy are better performers
It’s a program like cooking dinner. You need lots of ingredients to make it great, but its really worth it when you get into flow or drop into the zone doing your favorite things which may be your work.

15 Ways to Stimulate Your Brain
Posted by: | CommentsThis is a quick outline summary of an article you should read and is linked at the bottom. Its from BrainZ.
15 Ways to Stimulate the Brain (but probably don’t think about as a plan)
EXERCISE. Cardio, yoga, and deep breathing all increase oxygen to the brain. Certainly better for you than a cigarette.
WATER. Two glasses when you are hungry or tired. I find this is a real pick me up. Drink lots of water with your coffee because coffee is on the way to making you tired in a few hours. Yes, you’ll pee like a race horse.
STIMULATE YOUR SENSES. Colors, pink, can stimulate you and listening to music. I often open another browser and hit youtube for a few songs just to get my mind more active.
BE HAPPY. Of course easier to say than do, but much of my writings if you’re following are how to hit peak performance through health, fitness, and happiness.
PLAY GAMES. Party games and crosswords and soduku and the like. They stretch areas you are not utilizing and maybe help you get out of the box.
WATCH QUALITY TV. What? I don’t watch TV but my daughter loves Jeopardy. Gets your brain firing and reaches back into a lot of the stored info you haven’t accessed for awhile.
SURF THE NET. Who would of thunk? I think it drains as much as stimulates but most people read and make decisions fast while doing so and this can wake us up.
EAT BRAIN FOOD. Protein is the main stimulant. Eats lots of portions of protein during the day. Vitamins also stimulate but see the article for better list. I also take a brain pill Mind Power RX from Physician Formulas.com that has a load of natural stimulants.
FISH OIL. I have to quote on this one: “but the Omega -3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that do the trick. These fatty acids keep the dopamine levels in the brain high, increase neuronal growth in the frontal cortex of the brain, and increase cerebral circulation.” The key to happiness.
EAT WEEDS. The legal ones, Ginkgo Biloba and Gensing. I take the brain pill instead.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW. I do this daily. It is very stimulating to always have new ideas or new finds expanding what you know. Challenging yourself to out of comfort zone tasks will also stimulate.
DON’T WASTE TIME. One of my favorites. We drain the ram from our brain with meaningless escapes during the day; our phones, tv, surfing the net, texting etc.
WORK ON YOUR MEMORY. Now and then force yourself to remember something you don’t really need to remember to see how you do. Memorize songs and sing you yourself where no one can hear. Why should they suffer?
REST. I do all three suggestions. Read fiction before bed. Eat something without sugar. Nap during the day. Rest relieves the nervous system which is an important function of sleep. (meditate) (aerobics) (drinking, short one in the evenings)
SEX. Increases oxygen to the brain. Oxytocin helps you think and seratonin and dopamine follow afterward. Theoretically you should be able to write a great paper while having sex. See, and women think men shouldn’t be looking at the internet. They’re getting smarter.

If you want another good article on the brain my daughter sent me one this morning that does require more reading http://brainz.org/brain-hacks/
How To Get More Done?
Posted by: | CommentsHow much can we produce in a day’s time? If we have a new project, how long will it take us to complete it? Some projects are open ended and some have exact steps.
My day consists of scheduled tasks, open recreation time, and then the projects on which I am working. My projects require more time than I have in a month, so they are long procedures into which I try to plug a few cogs regularly.
How much I get done in a day is a matter of how much energy I have and how long I can keep up the passion for a task during the day. Because I don’t have a real job, my time is my own.
My mental processing is important. I want as much ram available as possible and as few system leaks as possible. The more energy I have focused, the longer I can work and be productive. I have very little tedious work and mostly creative work. I need maximum balanced mental energy.
I have tried to minimize the daily drains. I don’t watch TV. I only read the news a few times a week or when I am really done for the day. I don’t procrastinate on paying bills or taking care of tasks. I try to keep my relationships on sound footing. I eat very healthy and get regular exercise.
I get up at 5 a.m. when the world is quiet and there is little to distract me. I stretch so that my heart is pumping and I have my coffee. Now the world is my oyster. I focus on the most creative demands first. As the day proceeds I try to do the most demanding tasks in order until I am working on the to do’s that don’t require as much energy.
Peak Performance is the supported by having good health, eating properly, getting exercise., and being happy. No one said it would be easy.

We Have Many Areas of Happiness
Posted by: | CommentsThere are areas of happiness and there is over all happiness. Some people perform great at work because they are doing what they love or maybe out of fear they are doing it for survival. Then after work, their life falls apart.
Anxiety is usually the result of having challenges for which we don’t see the answer. It is a loss of faith that we can work things through or lack of faith that things turn out for the best. This may come from a general view that the glass is half full.
Happiness can be built from a foundation of behaviors that clip the continuous anxiety out of our lives. Having faith that we can solve our problems and that life is not set against us is the top side of what happiness looks like.
We need to be connected. We need to be connected to our bodies, which usually connects us to nature. Nature, the Universe, or God, has provided answers for 15 billion years now. Everything keeps adapting. We can all adapt to what we face.
We should realize we are the result of generations of survival of the fittest. We are supposed to be here and our brains are geared for happiness. The brain is waiting to produce dopamine for us so that we can have gratitude that we are here.
Start with eating natural, the way all species on earth eat. Get exercise which all species on earth do naturally. Your body is connected to everything on earth. Feel the love. Start adding things you can appreciate or enjoy every day. Look forward to pursuing things that make you happy.
If you can engage in pursuits that are challenging but manageable, the time spent in this engagement will look like being in the zone or flow. This produces happiness. Having more activities that you look forward to, get your life more into flow.
You can work through the anxieties as you realize you are here to pursue your passions.

Customers Love Efficiency
Posted by: | CommentsIf you are telling people something they don’t like they will do a work around.
In Peter Fingar’s Book Extreme Competition he expands his previous work on Business Process Management (BPM) to explore how the satisfied customer is the point of the new economy. Maybe it would be better phrased if I said the “ecstatic customer” is the point of the new economy.
I remember when I would take my computer to Best Buy and they would tell me they would give me a free new mother board under my warranty but they would have to send it out and that would take 2-3 weeks. No computer.
I just had my computer tuned with a cleaned CPU and new hard drive and it was done over night. UPS Brown has set up a computer repair facility and they repair computers in a few days and return them.
I took shirts and a suit to be pressed and they told me I could have them that afternoon. I didn’t expect that. BPM is about cutting the inefficiency out of processes to create a better customer experience.
Engineers often create new systems utilizing technology to update a manufacturing process for the factory floor. If they forget to consult the people on the front lines, the process may hit road blocks as the front line starts doing work arounds.
We are all under pressure to be more productive and to produce great results in less time. That is the nature of Extreme Competition in the new world order. If something doesn’t work, we work around it.
If something you are doing whether it be pricing, delivery time, finished product, doesn’t work, your customers will find a work around.

Is Your Contribution Making People Happier?
Posted by: | CommentsUp until a hundred and fifty years ago, man was very connected to the earth. He worked in the fields or hunted or certainly had to provide for a lot of his needs without going to the market.
Since then, life has become more simplified, more mechanized, and more distant from a connection to nature. What we are finding now is that success in marketing is connected with giving people an emotional experience. They will pay more if they can enjoy their experience;Starbucks, Iphone, Social Marketing, etc.
In fact, we are facilitating people telling others about experiences they like. Face Book has Like and Google + has +1. Social Buttons on websites could direct likes to numerous sharing centers.
In Extreme Competition, Peter Fingar describes the tectonic changes occurring in the global economy, but they all point to one conclusion. The consumer can now have what they want and when they want it. The super marketers are faced with anticipating what consumers will desire next. The leaders, can do it; Apple.
If what you are doing is not leading to your targets having a better experience, you are probably on the wrong track. This even goes for personal relationships. We have a lot more freedom to unsubscribe in every facet of our lives.
Finding our own happiness and purpose is important if we are going to create happiness and purpose for others.

How Key Words Rule Our Universe
Posted by: | CommentsContent is King, but getting found is the Emperor. In school, if you wanted to keep things organized, you put them in alphabetical order. That is a little too simplistic for the internet.
The internet is where everyone throws their stuff like that spare drawer in your dresser. The secret is knowing where to find everything when you need it. The way we do it is by giving everything a few words that quickly describe where we have put it
If you have a business, you want to describe it in a few words that have meaning to the people who want to reach into your drawer and find you. What words would they use to best describe your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)?
Why your USP instead of a generic term? If you are in the bakery business, you are not in it alone; there is manufacturing, distributing, and retail to name a few. There are a hundred different foods that are baked. Why are you different or better than the rest-USP?
Some bakers are better than others, but search engines don’t really taste the goods. They look into the drawer and try to figure which baker is most authentic for the niche they are trying to occupy. Search engines want the best shopping experience possible for their own clients.
They examine your site to see how it is structured and if you have the important elements that properly inform visitors about you and your business. They peruse how many times you use the words that describe you and where you put them. They know that if you are really in the business you say, then your key words will be in the most important places.
Search Engine Optimization is knowing how to place your business in the niche that will be most competitive for you and how to inform the search engines through site structure, content, and word use that you are the best.

Making Our Contribution Main Stream
Posted by: | CommentsWe each have unique gifts. When our gifts are fueled with passion, we can rise to new heights. What is it that we like to do, are good at, and can get paid for or for which we get acknowledged?
The economy is moving toward the collaboration of materials, parts, skills, technology, communication, knowledge, and transportation to deliver great experiences. The IPhone and IPad are just two examples.
I am finding that I am actually getting better experiences from my shopping these days because I think that those who are still surviving are learning how to serve customers. Those who provide bad experiences are getting eliminated.
Business Process Management can be called a lot of things, including downsizing. It is also a term for learning how to improve the end results for any business. Learning how to cut costs and operational time while improving the customer’s experience. That’s profitable downsizing.
The customer is really king in this new age. Terry Schurter and Peter Fingar in their books discuss how 3 billion new capitalists in the emerging economy are accelerating our ability to deliver what consumers want and when they want it.
The high paying jobs (and job security) go to the people who can find a way to contribute to a better customer (or business) experience. To make it fun and be competitive, individuals should operate at their Peak Performance levels.
Operating at Peak Performance or in “flow” means you are passionate about what you do. At this level you are most creative and most in tune with stimulus you receive by your surroundings. You operate at a high level of cognizance.
Getting in tune with your surroundings may begin by getting in tune with your own body, mind and spirit. Get in good health and fitness to reach your optimum. Have gratitude for your gifts. Help others have a greater experience in their lives or work.
Use your gifts backed by your passion to contribute. Make life better. That is the direction in which the new economy is moving. It is looking for team players who can visualize better processes and make them happen.
